Ingredients

Brew
  • 1 tablespoon pure roasted chicory root granules About 8 g; brewable granules, not instant powder or a coffee blend
  • 2 cups water 480 ml, plus extra hot water to dilute if desired
Optional additions
  • milk or suitable plant beverage Optional, served separately
  • sugar or other sweetener Optional, served separately

Equipment

  • French press At least 24 fl oz capacity; suitable for hot liquids.
  • Kettle
  • Measuring spoon and liquid measure
  • Two heatproof cups

Instructions

Steep and pour
  1. Check that the product contains pure roasted chicory root granules intended for brewing. Add the measured granules to a clean French press.
  2. Bring the water to a boil in a kettle, then carefully pour the measured 480 ml over the granules. Stir gently with a utensil suitable for the press. Set the lid on top without pressing down.
  3. Steep for 5 minutes. Press the plunger slowly and gently; do not force it if it resists. Pour the entire brewed liquid into two heatproof cups, leaving settled sediment behind.
  4. Let cool to a comfortable drinking temperature. Taste and dilute with a little hot water if desired. Add optional milk or sweetener individually. The final strained yield will be slightly less than the starting water volume.

Notes

No precise nutrition panel is provided for this strained infusion because extraction from roasted granules varies. Dry-root nutrient totals would not describe the liquid in the cup. Optional milk and sweetener add their own nutrients.
Pure chicory contains no coffee caffeine; a product blended with coffee or tea is different. This recipe does not use instant chicory powder. Follow the manufacturer's directions if its granule size or suggested ratio differs substantially.
Video companion: raebeautiful demonstrates a pure chicory-root drink with milk and sweetener. This version keeps those additions optional and uses a measured French-press steep; follow the written quantities here.
